'Cats pick up road win 72-70 at NAU

Weber State scored the final six points of the game to secure the win in Flagstaff.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Weber State scored the final six points of the game and got back on the winning track with a 72-70 win over Northern Arizona Thursday night at the Walkup Skydome. 

The Wildcats led by as many as 16 points in the first half and held a 35-27 lead at halftime. NAU rallied and tied the game at 57 with 6:16 to play. The Lumberjacks led by four at 70-66 with 53 seconds to play but the Wildcats scored the final six points, to seal the win. 

NAU shot 48 percent from the field, compared to 47 percent for the Wildcats and the 'Cats made just four 3-pointers, tied for a season-low in a game. WSU outrebounded the Lumberjacks 30-29 and forced 13 NAU turnovers. 

Dillon Jones led the way with 26 points, along with eight rebounds and four assists. He was 8 of 13 from the field and a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line. 

Blaise Threatt had 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting, including two 3-pointers. He also had six rebounds with two assists and two steals. 

Steven Verplancken added 13 points with two 3-pointers. 

The win snapped WSU's two-game losing streak and moved the 'Cats to 13-9 overall and 4-5 in Big Sky play, halfway through the conference regular season. 

Weber State continues its road trip at Northern Colorado on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Greeley, Colorado.
