'Cats open outdoor season with top ten finishes and PRs

Wildcat track and field finished the opening weekend of the outdoor season with multiple top five finishes at the Utah Tech Invite in St. George.

"It was a good first outdoor meet, our young steeplechase runners ran well and Laurie Murphy won the 300 meter," head coach Paul Pilkington said.

Laurie Murphy recorded a first place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:56.10, France Hudson finished fifth at 10:28.53 and Hailey Low finished seventh at 10:30.35.

Angelyca Chapman, Payge Walz, Jasmine Devers and Eliza Smith finished first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:00.85 and Sarena Mackley, Kate Tueller, Abby Hancock and Brittany Cardall finished second with a time of 4:03.10.

Four 'Cats finished in the top ten of the 200 meter dash, Walz led the team with a second place finish at 24.42 seconds, Chapman finished fourth at 24.95 seconds, Devers finished fifth at 25.00 seconds and Hancock finished seventh at 25.14 seconds.

Saga Hagelin recorded a second place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:30.78 and Hannah Bailey finished ninth with a time of 4:40.49.

Sandra Aberg finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.47, marking a personal best.

Walz led the 'Cats in the 100 meter dash with a second place finish and time of 12.00 seconds and Abby Hancock finished third at 12.04 seconds.

Chapman finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.90 seconds, Sarena Mackley finished seventh at 59.18 seconds and Elizabeth Littleewood finished ninth at 1:00.04.

Alyssa Hansen finished second in the javelin throw with a mark of 150-10, Kate Tueller finished eighth at 128-08 and Allie Richardson hit their PR with a mark of 124-05 and a tenth place finish.

Trisha Thompson Davis finished third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:59.80 and Lydia Felix finished seventh at 18:36.21.

Three Wildcats recorded a top ten finish in the 100 meter hurdles with Walz finishing fourth with a time of 13.96 seconds, Eliza Smith finished ninth at 14.73 seconds and Eden Devries finished tenth at 14.82.

Walz also recorded a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-09.75 and Shelby Johnson finished fifth with a mark of 16-05.

Both Abby Triplett and Aimee Chambers tied for third place in the high jump with a mark of 05-01.25.

Dawson Rothenbuhler finished third in the shot put with a mark of 45-07.75, Shannan Fonua finished fifth at 41-07.75 and Rachel Roberts finished sixth at 38-09.50.

Three Wildcats finished in the top ten for the 3000 meter steeplechase, Hannah Bailey led the squad in fourth place with a time of 11:12.43, Kami Withers finished fifth at 11:14.51 and Maggie Featherstone finished eighth at 11:27.76.

Eliza Smith finished sixth in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:04.02.

Rothenbuhler recorded a seventh place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 133-00.

The 'Cats will split the weekend and compete between the UVU Invitational March 28 & 29 and the Stanford Invitational March 29-30.
