ST. GEORGE, Utah – After getting off to a slow start on Thursday at Sunbrook Golf Club, the Weber State women's golf team made a late push up the leaderboard to wrap up the opening round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational in eighth place with a 22-over par 310.

The Wildcats are nine shots off the lead of Boise State, but lead all three other Big Sky Conference programs in the field, with Idaho State, Montana and Portland State occupying the 11 through 13 spots on the board.

Sofia Fuenmayor led the way for the Weber State scoring team over the opening 18 holes, shooting a 4-over par 76 to tie for 13th place.

Jade Gruher, playing for Weber State as an individual, posted the team's best score of the day with three birdies in a 3-over par 75 and is tied for eighth place overall.

Isabel Gutierrez came in with a 5-over par 77 for the scoring team and is tied for 23rd, while Cala Korman posted a 78 for the scoring team and is tied for 33rd place.

Rounding out the scoring team, Emily Song is tied for 40th after a 79 and Jessica Zelasko is tied for 68th after an opening round 84.

Samira Salinas, also playing as an individual for the Wildcats, shot 78 and is tied for 33rd place.

The 13-team field will be back to the course on Friday morning for the second round, while the final 18 holes is on tap for Saturday.
