GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- On a tough scoring final day at the Big Sky Conference Men's Golf Championships, Weber State shot a 7-over par 295, finishing second to Sacramento State as the tournament wrapped up at Wigwam Golf Club.
The Wildcats, who trailed by four shots heading into the day, managed to pick up one shot on the eventual champion Hornets, who shot a 296 on the day. WSU pulled within one shot with around four holes to play, but dropped a couple shots coming in.
Sac State finished off the league title with a 54-hole total of 2-under par 862, while Weber State was at 1-over par 865. Idaho and Northern Colorado each shot 4-over par 292's on the day, with Idaho pushing both Weber State and Sac State for the overall lead on the back nine before finishing third at 2-over par 866. The Bears finished fourth in the tournament with a 12-over par 876.
Isaac Buerger led Weber State on the day, shooting a 1-under par 71 to finish tied in at tie for second place overall with a three-round total of 4-under par 212. Buerger finished the tournament three shots off the lead of individual medalist Joe Sykes of Idaho. Buerger's final round 71 came after opening the tournament with scores of 70 and 71.
Hayden Banz shot rounds of 70, 71 and 74 for a 1-under par total of 215 to tie for fifth overall, while Brendan Thomas shot a 3-over par total of 219 on rounds of 71, 68 and 80 to tie for ninth.
Ty Anderson shot a final round 72 to move up into 14th place overall. His total of 5-over par 221 included rounds of 76 and 73 over the first two days.
Gunnar Knutson rounded out the Wildcats with an 18th place finish at 13-over par 229 after rounds of 77, 74 and 78.
