Wildcats take down Bobcats to advance in Big Sky Tournament

Phoenix, AZ — The Weber State Men's Tennis team defeated the Montana State Bobcats 4-2 in the opening round of the Big Sky Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.
In doubles play, the 'Cats swept the Bobcats winning on courts one and two to take the doubles team point. Elyes Marouani and Tristan Sarap took down their opponent 6-2 while the duo of Connor Kruger and Jordan Coutinho clinched the doubles point 6-4. Matteo Savio and Tuan (Ken) Minh went unfinished on court three.
In singles, Tuan (Ken) Minh made quick work of his opponent on court six winning 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets. The other two singles wins needed for a Wildcat victory were a lot more grueling. Elyes Marouani went to three sets before getting the victory on court two. He won by a final of 5-7, 7-6, 6-1. William Zulch provided the clincher for the team on court five as he also won in three sets. After winning a marathon of a first set, Zulch dropped the second before clinching the victory with a 6-1 set three win. The final scores on court five were 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-1.
The 'Cats move on to the semi-final round tomorrow morning against the number one seed Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks come into the match well rested having clinched the bye due to being tied for the best record in the Big Sky with Sacramento State. NAU comes into the match with a record of 16-6 (7-1) on the season. Their one lone conference loss came at the hands of Weber State on March 31st when the 'Cats took the win 4-3. In that game, Tuan (Ken) Minh delivered the clincher in the third set of his singles match to award the team the victory.
