Wildcats season comes to an end after loss to Vikings

Pocatello, ID - The Weber State softball team's season came to an end this Friday afternoon in the eighth game of the Big Sky Tournament against the Portland State Vikings with a 12-5 loss.
  • A strong start for Weber State began with a catch by Mia Rushton followed by a powerful throw to third base to end the Vikings in the top of the first.
  • One batter into the bottom of the first, Taegan Smith hit a bomb to center field and the Wildcats were on the board. 
  • To respond, PSU singled to right center and brought in two RBI in the second. Not finished there, the Vikings tacked on four more runs throughout the next three innings to lead 6-1.
  • The best chance for the Wildcats to take the lead came in the sixth, as the 'Cats tallied three runs off a double from Sammy Gallegos and Kiaira Smith.
  • Hopeful in the bottom of the seventh, Mariyah Delgado homered first at-bat but was unable to respond to the Vikings' additional four runs in the top of the seventh and Portland State went on to win 12-5 and end the Wildcat's season.
