Tawnie Moore named assistant coach for Weber State track and field

The former Wildcat All-American will be a full-time assistant coach for the WSU men's and women's teams.
Weber State track and field has added former Wildcat great Tawnie Moore as a full-time assistant coach. Moore will be an assistant coach with the WSU men's and women's track and field teams and will coach the sprints and hurdles for the Wildcats.Â
Moore has spent time as a part-time assistant coach with the Wildcats for the last two seasons and has guided several athletes to school records and top 10 overall marks.Â
She has coached three school record holders and six Big Sky Conference champions in the hurdles, sprints, and jumping events. She has also coached multiple athletes to top-three finishes in multiple conference championships.Â
Moore is an Ogden area native and was an All-American at Weber State during her career from 2014-19.
She was a four-time Big Sky Champion and holds two Weber State school records and one Big Sky Conference record.Â
She earned second-team All-America honors during the 2019 outdoor track season by finishing 11th in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships. She became the first Weber State athlete ever (male or female) to earn All-America honors in a hurdles event. At the NCAA meet, she broke her own Big Sky Conference and WSU school record in the event with a time of 13.03.Â
Moore captured four Big Sky Championships during her career. She was a two-time champion in the 100-meter hurdles, winning in 2017 and 2019. At the 2019 meet, she set a conference championship record with a time of 13.11. She also placed twice in the 200 meters at the outdoor championships.Â
In indoor track, she twice won the Big Sky title in the 60-meter hurdles, capturing the conference title in 2016 and 2017.Â
She is currently Weber State's school record holder in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32, which ranks third in Big Sky history.Â
Following her Wildcat career, she was a professional hurdler for four years and qualified for the 2020 US Olympic Trials.Â
Moore earned a master's degree in Professional Communication from Weber State in April 2019. As a senior, she was named the Big Sky Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was also an honor society member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Lambda Pi Eta and was a National Society of Leadership and Success member.Â
She graduated from Fremont High School where she earned All-State honors three straight years.Â
