The Weber State men's indoor track and field team captured eight titles as the hosts of the Wildcat Invitational this weekend in Ogden, the only home indoor meet for the Wildcats.Â
In Saturday's track events, WSU won five events and had an arena record. Kelton Gagnon set a new Stromberg Arena record in the 3,000 meters and won the event with a time of 8:23.58.Â
The 'Cats finished first and second in the mile run with Bryce Anderson taking first at 4:12.18. TJ Warnick was second in the event at 4:18.22.Â
Henry Prusse was the winner of the 400 meters, posting a time of 50.90 and the Wildcats were first in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:24.98.Â
Malik Johnson was the top collegiate finisher in the 55-meter hurdles at 7.82.Â
In the field events on Friday, WSU captured three individual titles. Kale Thomas won the high jump with a mark of 6-07 and Rodee Brow was first in the pole vault at 15-01.
Ryan Talbot was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a mark of 19-07.50.Â
"It was a lot of fun to host our January opener coming back from the break, said WSU men's track and field head coach Corbin Talley. "There was some great support and the athletes are always going to feed off of the energy that people bring. I saw some great fire and determination which led to a number of season bests and PRs. I thought Bryce and TJ both ran very strong in the mile. With the conversion, Bryce gets a big PR of 4:04.00 and TJ dips under 4:10. Kelton and Jake worked well together in the 3,000 meters and it was awesome to see Kelton get the Swenson record at 8:23 (8:06 after the conversion).
"I was really pleased with Kale and Brogan in the high jump it was great to see both of them jump at or near lifetime bests. We saw some great things from young athletes and I'm looking forward to seeing progress and growth in the coming weeks."
Weber State will next be in action at the Snake River Open on Friday, January 17 in Pocatello, Idaho.Â
