GAME NOTES: Weber State hosts Portland State Thursday

Weber State women's basketball will matchup against the Portland State Vikings this Thursday at the Dee Events Center.
This will be the 65th all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Vikings. The series is led by Weber State 33-31 with the Wildcats leading 18-12 in Ogden. In the last game between the two, Weber State won 62-53 in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament in Boise, Idaho. The last time that the Vikings beat the Wildcats was in 2023.
Portland State is 4-10, 1-4 this season. The Vikings have recorded losses against Big Sky opponents Sacramento State, Eastern Washington, Idaho and Northern Arizona. The Vikings are led in scoring by Alaya Fitzgerald who averages 12.0 points per game. Fitzgerald also leads the Vikings in 3-pointers and free throws. Averaging 7.4 rebounds per game is Rhema Ogele. Portland State was picked ninth in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Four Wildcats are nationally ranked; Taylor Smith is ranked No. 7 in free throw percentage and No. 138 in blocks per game. Kendra Parra is ranked No. 17 in free throw percentage. Antoniette Emma-Nnopu is ranked No. 56 in rebounds per game and Lanae Billy is ranked No. 75 in in three point percentage and No. 159 in 3-pointers per game.
Weber State is under the direction of second year head coach Jenteal Jackson who was named the seventh head coach in WSU history. A Utah native and former in-state college player, she came to Weber State after spending the two seasons as head coach at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Prior to becoming head coach, she spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Westminster. She played college basketball at BYU and Westminster.
Wildcats Kendra Parra, Kennedy Eskelson, Margarita Satini, Taylor Smith, and Amanda Edwards all return to the Weber State team this season. Weber State picked up transfers Rose Bubakar from BYU, Antoniette Emma-Nnopu from UNC Greensboro, Lanae Billy from Fort Lewis College, Japrix Stubbs from USU Eastern, and Arizana Peaua from Westminster. The team also welcomed five newcomers, Maya Davis, Fui Niumeitolu, Mata Peaua, Dakota Nap, and Vanna Quintana.
Following Thursday's game, the Wildcats are up against Sacramento State on January 25 at home.
