Eastern Washington beat Weber State 23-20. Wildcats home again against Montana next week.

OGDEN - In a hard-fought Big Sky battle at Stewart Stadium, Weber State came up just short in a 23–20 loss to Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon.

Weber State held the Eagles to 199 yards of offense, the fewest allowed this season, but WSU's rally fell short as Eastern Washington held on for the narrow win. The Wildcats also held Eastern Washington scoreless in the second half.

Weber State scored on its first possession of the game, capped by a 34-yard touchdown run by Davion Godley to take a 7-0 lead, just 1:11 into the game.

Eastern Washington immediately answered after recovering a muffed punt at the 2-yard line, with Jared Taylor punching in a two-yard score to tie it. The Eagles then took advantage of a Weber State fumble for a safety late in the quarter and led 9-7 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Chauncey Sylvester capped a 60-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run, putting the Wildcats back on top 14–9. But Eastern Washington regained control before halftime, with back-to-back touchdowns in the final five minutes and EWU led 23-14 at the break.

The Wildcat defense dominated the second half, holding EWU scoreless and allowing just 30 total yards after the break.

Sloan Calder made a 38–yard field goal in the third quarter and a 37-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter, but that was all the scoring in the half. WSU's potential game-tying drive in the final minutes ended near midfield after an interception.

Weber State rushed for 205 yards and held the Eagles to just 30 yards. EWU threw for 169 yards, compared to 140 for the Wildcats, and the Eagles also forced three WSU turnovers and won the turnover margin 3-0.

Godley led Weber State's rushing attack with 95 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, but left the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Sylvester had 23 rushing yards and a touchdown but also did not finish the game due to injury. Bird Butler added 47 rushing yards, including a 45-yard burst.

Dijon Jennings completed 17 of 27 passes for 140 yards, and seven different Wildcat receivers had catches. Jayleen Record led the way with five catches for 46 yards.

The WSU defense had 12 tackles for loss and four sacks, in addition to three pass breakups. Sione Hala had a big day, finishing with 12 tackles, including a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss. Mayson Hitchens added 10 tackles, and Zion Finau and Matt Herron each recorded a sack.

The Wildcats drop to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in Big Sky Conference play. The 'Cats are right back home again next Saturday, November 1, at 1 p.m. against nationally-ranked Montana.
