Weber State battles Utah State tough in Logan

LOGAN - Weber State battled Utah State wire-to-wire but came up short, 83-73 Wednesday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

The game was tied at halftime before the Aggies pulled away late in the second half for the win.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 12-4 lead and led by as many as midway through the first half before the Aggies responded with a 7-0 run to even things up. The teams traded buckets the rest of the way and were tied 41-41 at halftime.

Utah State was 0-9 from 3-point range in the first half.

In the second half, Utah State used a 9–0 burst to build a 15-point lead with just over seven minutes to play. The 'Cats couldn't get closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Trevor Hennig led Weber State with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a pair of threes, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Nigel Burris, a former Aggie, posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Jace Whiting and David Hansen each added 10 points off the bench, combining to hit four of the Wildcats' eight made threes.

Weber State shot 38 percent from the field and was 8 of 26 from 3-point range. The Wildcats outrebounded Utah State 40-38 and scored 21 second-chance points.

The Wildcats will conclude their three-game road trip at UC Irvine this Saturday night.

Weber State will return home next week to host the Junction City Jam Tournament. The 'Cats will host Campbell on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and UT Arlington on Saturday, Nov. 22.
