Wildcats beat Roos 82-61

Five Wildcats scored in double figures in the win.
OGDEN - Weber State never trailed and had five players score in double figures in an 82-61 win over Kansas City Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.Â
WSU led wire-to-wire, built a double-digit lead late in the first half, and led by as many as 22 points.Â
The Wildcats opened the game with an 8-2 run fueled by early shot-making from Viljami Vartiainen and steady play inside from Edwin Suarez Jr.Â
The Wildcat defense held the Roos to 31 percent shooting in the first half, while timely threes from Vartiainen and Nigel Burris pushed the lead to 12. Weber State took a 35-23 advantage into halftime.
Weber State extended the lead to 18 points early in the second half before a 10-0 run by the Roos cut the lead to eight with 13 minutes to play. But Weber State responded with a run of its own and built the lead back to 15 points with 5:21 to play.Â
The Wildcats shot 67 percent from the field in the second half and finished the game at 53 percent shooting. WSU also knocked down 10 3-pointers and outrebounded the Roos 41-24. The 'Cats also held Kansas City to 43 percent shooting and 6 of 20 from 3-point range. Â
Vartiainen led the 'Cats with 17 points and knocked down five 3-pointers. Suarez Jr. had his first double-double as a Wildcat as he finished with 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He also had two blocks and two assists.Â
Trevor Hennig added 13 points with three assists and three steals. Jace Whiting knocked down two 3-pointers and finished with 12 points, and Tijan Saine Jr. added 11 points with five assists.Â
The win moved the Wildcats to 3-4 on the season.Â
Weber State will play two games in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge next week. The 'Cats will host Oral Roberts on Wednesday, Dec. 3, then play at St. Thomas on Sunday, Dec. 7.Â
