'Cats record multiple top ten performances in first weekend of outdoor competition

The 'Cats wrapped up a dominating performance at the UVU Collegiate Invitational on March 28 in Orem, Utah. 

"We were very please with the performances at our first meet," head coach Corbin Talley said. "The guys have been working hard and preparing well for the outdoor season. We still have a bitter taste in our mouth from the indoor conference meet, and we're fired up to prove ourselves this outdoor season."

Bryson Cortes, Tristan Spalding, Malik Johnson and Alex Wheeler finished in second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 40.60 and are now second on the all-time list. 

Wheeler finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.10 moved in to eighth on the all-time list and Anderson finished in fourth at 47.98

"Alex Wheeler and Colby ANderson both look solid in the 400 to start the season in the 47s," Talley said. 

Jeims Molina finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 187-6.0 and moved into tenth on the all-time list, Jake Weathers finished in third at 179-9.0 and Ryan Johnson in ninth at 161-7.0. 

Molina finished sixth in the discus with a mark of 164-4.5 and moved into ninth on the all-time list, Weathers finished with a mark of 148-10.25 and Johnson finished at 138-9.25. 

"I was particularly proud of the day we had from Jeims Molina in both the hammer and discus, the 4x100 team of Malik Johnson, Tristan Spalding, Alex Wheeler and Bryson Ottley did a great job."

Bryson Ottley recorded a first place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:51.34 and Henry Prusse finished in tenth at 1:56.00. 

Owen Rogers finished first in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:13.77, Hanokh Gailson ran unattached and finished in third at 9:26.57, TJ Warnick finished in fourth at 9:30.71 and Jess Christiansen finished in sixth place at 10:02.80. 

"Owen Rogers meant business un his first ever steeplechase with the victory at a solid time at altitude," Talley said. 

Henry Prusse, Spalding, Colby Anderson and Alex Wheeler led the 'Cats with a first place finish in 4xr400 relay with a time of 3:11.30. 

"And we finished the day with a great victory in the 4x400 with a Big Sky leadining opening mark," Talley said. 

Malik Johnson led the squad in 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.70 and a fifth place finish, Cody Gehrett recorded a sixth place finish at 14.71 and Ryan Talbot finished in tenth at 15.66. 
Malike Johnson finished fourth in 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.06. 

"Malik Johnson and Cody Gehrett looked strong for us in the high hurdles." 

Spalding finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.86. 

Reese Jones recorded a mark of 188-11.75 with a fifth place finish in the javelin, Ethan Ecker finished sixth at 181-11.5, Talbot finished with a mark of 133-5.25 and Gehrett finished at 107-5.0. 

Gehrett finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5-8.5. 

Talbot finished ninth in the long jump with a mark of 18-9.25 and sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 13-3.5. 

Spalding recorded a top ten finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.94, Cortes finished 11th at 10.99 and Ben Johansen finished 12.03.

"It was a grat day for the Wildcats!" Talley said. 

The Wildcats will be back at it April 4 & 5, splitting the weekend between the Stanford Invitational and the UNLV Rebel Elite.
