Liam Day named Big Sky Player of the Week

Ogden, UT — Liam Day was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for his play in matches against Sacramento State and Air Force. This is the first time the graduate student from Evenvale, South Africa has received the honor.
Day went 2-0 in both singles and doubles on the weekend. In the No. 5 singles position, Day defeated his counterpart from Sacramento State in three sets and clinched the match for the Wildcats against Air Force with a gritty two-set win taking the match 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. In doubles play, Day and partner Jordan Coutinho clinched the doubles point in the match against Air Force with a 6-4 win in the No. 2 position. The Wildcats would go on to beat the Falcons 4-0.
As a Wildcat, Day is 3-3 in singles play and 4-4 in doubles play on the season. Before coming to Weber State, Day played for three years at Francis Marion in Florence, South Carolina, and one season at Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Alabama. In his time at Francis Marion, he was twice a First-Team All-Conference selection, a four-time Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, and the 2022 Francis Marion Team MVP. Additionally, he was named the Francis Marion Male Athlete of the Year in 2022-23 and earned a career-high of No. 50 in the ITA Division II rankings.
Day has been an integral part of the early success of the Men's Tennis team as they are currently on a four-game winning streak and winners of six of their last seven matches. The 'Cats are first in the Big Sky with a record of 3-0 in conference play. The team will embark on a West Coast road trip beginning Thursday, March 6th when they take on the Temple Owls in La Jolla, California. They return to Ogden when they play host to the Utah State Aggies on Saturday, March 22nd at the Ogden Athletic Club. The match will begin at 11:30 a.m.
