Wildcats sweep series against Griz

MISSOULA, Mont. - Weber State softball edged out the Montana Griz in a 4-3 victory to sweep the weekend series. A key two-run homer by freshman Sadie Kirk in the seventh inning claimed the win to improve the Wildcats 5-1 in Big Sky play.
On the final day of the series in Missoula, the Griz struck first with a home run in the third inning.
Wildcat Olivia Birkinshaw responded with a home run to left field on the first pitch of the top of the fourth. This was Birkinshaw's tenth home run of the season.
The Griz offense battled back, regaining the advantage 3-1 off a home run and an RBI single.
Hoping to string together some offense in the top of the seventh, freshman Sadie Kirk hit a home run with two on base to reclaim the lead for the Wildcats, 4-3.
It was three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh for Montana, as Weber State secured the win thanks to a late Kirk home run.
Cali McCraw earned the win, improving to 8-4 on the season. She totaled two strikeouts.
Weber State was led by Kirk, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBI. Taegan Smith went 2-for-2 at the plate, and Birkinshaw recorded one home run and one RBI.
