Anderson takes over as head coach after two seasons as WSU assistant coach.
Wildcat legend, Hall of Fame athlete, and Olympian Lindsey Anderson has been named the head coach of the Weber State women's track and field and cross country teams.
Anderson spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the Wildcats and now takes over as the just the third women's track and field head coach in the last 45 years.
She replaces Paul Pilkington, who retired after more than 20 years coaching at Weber State.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be taking over as the women's head track and field and cross country coach at Weber State," Anderson said. "This is literally a dream come true for me. Once I realized that coaching was a path I wanted to pursue, I always knew that Weber State was the place I wanted to be. I began as a volunteer coach at Weber and then was fortunate to pursue a few different coaching opportunities around the country before having the opportunity to come back. My experience as an athlete and during my time volunteering was phenomenal. I have big shoes to fill and will be forever grateful for the things I've learned and the time I've spent with all the great Weber State coaches before me, especially most recently with the opportunity to work with Coach Paul Pilkington again in his final two years of coaching, leading up to retirement. I can't wait to see what we can do in this new era of women's track and field and cross country at Weber State!"
Anderson was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 2024, and is also a member of the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame and the Weber State Athletics Hall of Fame.
A native of Morgan, Utah, Anderson was a standout with the Weber State women's track and field and cross country teams from 2004-07. She was a nine-time Big Sky Conference Champion, a two-time NCAA All-American, set the NCAA record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and finished second at the NCAA Championships.
She was also the first Weber State athlete in any sport to compete in the Summer Olympics, as she qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the steeplechase.
She was inducted into the Weber State Hall of Fame in 2017 and the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame in 2023. She was named one of the Big Sky Conference's 25 Greatest Female Athletes of all time in 2014.
She was an assistant coach at Weber State from 2007-14, where she contributed to recruiting and training and coached All-Americans Amber Henry and Sarah Callister. She also coached at Cal State Bakersfield.
Anderson was the men's and women's head coach at the College of Southern Idaho for five years, where she restarted the program and led the Golden Eagles women's team to the 2021 NJAA Division I National Cross Country Championship, the first in school history.
During her five seasons at CSI, both the men's and women's cross country teams placed in the top 10 in the nation every season. She was twice named the National Women's Coach of the Year and was the program's architect as it was re-started after a 19-year hiatus. During the 2020 season, she led the men's team to a runner-up finish at the national meet, the highest in school history.
She was then the head cross country coach and the assistant distance coach at the University of Missouri. During her time with the Tigers, she led the women's team to a top-15 finish in every race and coached one athlete to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
