Wildcats drop season opener in Eugene

Eugene, Ore - The Weber State Women's Soccer team dropped their season opener to the Oregon Ducks 4-0 on Thursday in Eugene.

Obviously, the result is not what we were hoping for, but there were plenty of positives to the game. Head Coach Kyle Christensen said, I was pleased with the opportunities we had to score, and we had moments in the game where we controlled the tempo and possession. There is plenty we will learn from this game, and we will now prepare for another tough opponent on Sunday.

The Ducks broke through for 4 goals, two in each half, on 17 total shots. Junior goalie Maya Cordova had 6 saves in the match.

The Wildcats were knocking on the door all match, but were not able to break through. Sammie Sofonia and Sayler Schlosser both had shots bounce off the post in the 2nd half in the 75th and 87th minutes, respectively.

Presley Ray (Highland, UT/American Fork) missed just wide in the 77th minute and was one of 13 shots and 7 shots on goal for the Wildcats.

Schlosser and Junior forward Lily Blum (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) led the Wildcat offense as they both had 3 shots and 2 shots on goal in the match.

Emery Jacobs (Kaysville, UT/Davis) and Isabella Sackett anchored the 'Cat defense as they both went the distance, playing all 90 minutes of the match.

The Wildcats will now make the hour drive north as they will take on the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis, Oregon, on Sunday. That match will begin at 1 p.m. (M.T.) and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
