Four players score in double figure in 91-80 win over Eastern Washington
OGDEN - A dominant second-half surge lifted Weber State to a 91-80 win over Eastern Washington on Thursday night at the Dee Events Center.
The Wildcats extended their winning streak to four games and improved to 4-1 in Big Sky play.
Eastern Washington took a 44-42 lead into halftime and opened the second half with a 10-2 run, pushing its advantage to 56-46 with 14:30 remaining. Weber State responded with a dominant 26-5 run over the next seven minutes and took a 74-63 lead with 7:06 to play.
The Wildcats led by as many as 14 points down the stretch, and the margin never dipped below six the rest of the way.
Weber State hit nine 3-pointers and limited the Eagles to 4-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. The Wildcats also won the rebounding battle 37-31, went 24 of 30 from the free-throw line, and forced 15 turnovers that turned into 26 points.
"It wasn't always pretty, but we had guys step up and find a way," said Weber State head coach Eric Duft. "We were flat to start the second half, but we found some energy and maturity and had another great team win."
Four Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Tijan Saine Jr. with 23 points. Saine shot 7 of 11 from the field, knocked down two 3-pointers, and added five assists and three steals, marking his fourth 20-point game in the last seven contests.
Edwin Suarez Jr. finished with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Viljami Vartiainen added 14 points and made four 3-pointers. Jace Whiting added 12 points, and Nigel Burris and Malek Gomma each scored nine.
