Isaac Wood is in his third season as an assistant for the Weber State men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs. He is also in his second year as the Recruiting Coordinator for the Wildcat men’s and women’s programs.
Wood joined Weber State in July 2014 and assists the Wildcats in all aspects of the program including recruiting and athlete development. He also serves on the NCAA Cross Country Executive Committee.
In Wood’s first year as Recruiting Coordinator, Weber State signed 31 scholarship athletes to the men’s and women’s rosters. The second year the 'Cats signed 27 athletes.
Wood assisted with the Wildcat women's cross country team that won the Big Sky Championships in 2015, and advanced to the NCAA Championships, finishing 22nd overall.
A native of North Salt Lake, Utah, Wood came to Weber State with a variety of experience in track and field in coaching, recruiting and analysis.
In January 2014, he joined the track and field website Flotrack as a full-time senior analyst and associate producer. While at Flotrack, he served as a high school, college and professional analyst in producing track and field coverage of meets around the world. He was also the main broadcaster and commentator of meets on the site.
During the fall of 2013, Wood was a graduate assistant coach at Florida State where he worked with the men’s and women’s cross country teams. At FSU he was heavily involved in recruiting and compliance with the Seminole teams. During his tenure, the Florida State women’s cross country team captured the ACC title and the NCAA South Region title and went on to finish eighth at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Prior to his time at Florida State, Wood spent four years as a team manager and assistant for the BYU men’s cross country and track and field teams while a student at BYU. With the Cougars he worked in all aspects of the program with specific emphasis on recruiting. In his last two years, the BYU men’s cross country team finished fourth and sixth at the NCAA Championships. Wood also played a significant role in the development of several All-Americans at BYU.
In 2012, he started the critically acclaimed blog The Wood Report which includes national track and field rankings and previews.
Wood attended Woods Cross High School, graduating in 2007. He earned a bachelor’s degree in History from BYU in 2013 and married Elise Fassmann in June 2014. Track is a big part of his family. His father Bob was a prominent figure in track and field as an agent and was a part of USA Track and Field. His brother Sam has won back-to-back Utah state track and field titles as the head coach at Woods Cross High.
Wood also has volunteered his time as a coach to inmates at the Utah State Prison. His service has been chronicled in multiple media outlets including the Washington Post.
