Corbin Talley is in his eighth season at Weber State. In July 2017, he was named the head coach for the Weber State men’s track and field and cross country programs. Prior to coaching at Weber State, Talley had much success as head coach for the Davis High School track and field and cross country programs.
As a Weber State coach, Talley has led the men’s Wildcat cross country teams to six top-3 finishes at the Big Sky Championships. Talley has coached two NCAA cross country All-Americans, 6 NCAA cross country individual qualifiers, and ten cross country Big Sky All-Conference athletes. Under Coach Talley, the men’s cross country team has finished top 7 in the NCAA Mountain Regional on three occasions with a high finish of 5th place in 2019.
In 2019, Talley coached Taylor Dillon, Jordan Cross, and Christian Allen to earn Big Sky All-Conference honors leading the team to back-to-back second place finishes behind National Champions, NAU. Later in the 2019 season, Dillon and Allen individually qualified for the NCAA Championships. Allen placed 14th overall, which is the highest NCAA placement of a Weber State men’s cross country athlete. Allen received All-American honors and Academic All-District honors. Dillon placed 59th at the NCAA Championships. In 2021, Christian Allen returned to the NCAA Championships to finish 16th earning his second All-American status. In 2023 and 2024, Talley coached Peter Visser to consecutive NCAA Individual qualifications.
In track and field, Talley has coached 16 Big Sky Champions, 36 NCAA West First Round qualifiers, five NCAA Finals qualifiers, two NCAA Division I All-Americans, and three Olympic Trials qualifiers. In 2018, he coached Jordan Cross to win the Big Sky title in the steeplechase. Cross later qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships where he finished 20th in the steeplechase. In 2019, Nathan Dunivan had a 10th place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships and earned All-American honors. Talley coached Trey Deveraux, who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Track Championships and earned All-American honors in the pole vault. Deveraux holds the Weber State indoor track record in the pole vault, with a height of 17-09. During the 2022 indoor season, Tracen Warnick set the school record in the mile, running 3:58.52 and Christian Allen set the school record in the 5000m at 13:36.50. In the 2022 outdoor season, a WSU record nine athletes qualified for the NCAA West First Round, including four athletes in the 3000m Steeplechase. In 2023, Bronson Winter qualified for the NCAA Finals in the Steeplechase and earned NCAA Honorable Mention All-American. In 2024, Talley coached eight athletes to the NCAA First Round, once again including four athletes in the 3000m Steeplechase. Josh Trafny qualified for the NCAA Finals in the Javelin in 2024 and finished 23rd. In addition, Trafny and teammate Cody Canard qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in the Javelin—they are now #1 and #2 on the WSU All-Time List. The WSU Outdoor All-Time list currently has six school records and 40 All-Time marks coached by Talley. The WSU Indoor All-Time list currently has six school records and 53 All-Time marks coached by Talley.
Talley graduated from Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah in 1995, and then ran track at Weber State from 1995-96 and from 1999-2002. He was an eight-time All-Big Sky Conference performer for the Wildcats in cross country and track and field. He still ranks fifth in WSU history in the indoor 5,000 meters with a time of 14:33.0 and still holds the Swenson Gym record in the 3,000 meters.
He was a part of seven Big Sky Championship teams in track and field for the Wildcats and twice competed at the NCAA Championships in cross country. He also earned Big Sky Academic honors 10 times in his career.
He graduated from Weber State in December 1995, with a degree in English Teaching and Psychology.
After graduating he began coaching at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, where he was the girl’s cross country and track and field head coach from 2003-2017 and the boy’s head coach from 2007-2017, in addition to teaching English.
Talley coached the Darts to 23 Utah 5A state championships and 45 region titles. He led the Davis boy’s track team to eight state titles, girl’s track to seven titles, girl’s cross country to six and boy’s cross country to two championships.
He led Davis High to three top ten team finishes at the Nike Nationals in boy’s cross country and two in girl’s cross country. In 2016, Talley was named the Nike Nationals Coach of the Year.
Talley is married to Stefanie Hansen, a former Weber State track and field athlete. The couple has two daughters and one son. Ashlyn, Samantha, and Joshua.
