Kate Nygaard begins her third season as the lead assistant to head coach Mary Kay Amicone in 2015-16 at Weber State, and her 10th season as Amicone's assistant after spending eight seasons at Salt Lake Community College.

Nygaard helped the Bruins reach the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national championship game in each of the last three seasons. SLCC also won the Scenic West Athletic Conference title for seven straight seasons and won the Region 18 title for five straight years.

At Salt Lake, Nygaard worked with the pitching staff, hitters and catchers, as well as giving camps and clinics for individual and team instruction.

Nygaard also worked as the Sports Information Director at SLCC, before being promoted to Athletics Promotions Director where she was responsible for game promotions and social media.

As a player, she earned All-Region 18 and NJCAA All-American honors for SLCC under then coach Amy Hogue, before transferring to the University of Utah to finish out her softball eligibility. Shortly after graduating from the U of U, Kate became the head assistant at SLCC. Coach Nygaard still ranks in the top five in home runs and RBI in school history at Salt Lake, and hit 13 round-trippers in her time as a Ute.

Nygaard graduated from Utah in 2005 with a degree in sociology, and completed her Master's degree in Sports Leadership in 2013.
