SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Weber State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Sacramento State on Friday, marking the second-straight year the Hornets have beaten the Wildcats in the opening match of the Big Sky Conference season.
Sac State got on the board to open the scoring in the 11th minute as Amanda Gray scored her fifth goal of the year volleying in a cross from Kim Kemper.
WSU would retaliate in the 20th minute as Hayley McCoy blasted in a shot from the top of the box for her second tally of the season.
For the next 80-plus minutes, the two teams battled scoreless, but 52 seconds into the second overtime period, Katie Burton scored her first of the year for the game winner, dropping the Wildcats to 4-6-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
WSU goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie posted seven saves in her first action back in almost a month. Ritchie has been out since Sep. 14, when she suffered a concussion against Boise State.
Mandy Trojan picked up the win for the Hornets, who improved to 7-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big Sky. Trojan posted four saves in the contest.
Weber State will next face Portland State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. MST.
