Sara Tuomi posted 19 points and pulled down six rebounds to help Weber State end a five-game losing streak with a 68-49 win Saturday afternoon at Eastern Washington. The 19-point win is the second-largest win of the season for the Wildcats who pick up their first Big Sky victory and improve to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
For the first time this season the Wildcats never trailed in a game as they won their fourth straight game over the Eagles. The ?Cats led by as many as 21 points.
“I was pleased with our effort and intensity, especially on the defensive end,” said WSU head coach Carla Taylor who was coaching her 550th career game at Weber State. “We bought into what we needed to do defensively and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Our defense was our best offense today.”
The 68 points posted by Weber State is the second most this season and they improve to 6-2 when scoring 60 or more points in a game. WSU entered the game last in the Big Sky in scoring offense and also improved to 7-1 this season when holding its opponents under 50 points.
The ?Cats shot 42 percent from the field, breaking a streak of eight straight games below 40 percent. They also held Eastern Washington to 34 percent from the field, including 2-14 from three-point land. Eastern Washington also had 22 turnovers, which Weber State converted into 16 points. WSU also out rebounded the Eagles 38-33.
