'Cats Win Fourth Straight

LAS VEGAS -- The Weber State men's tennis team ran its winning streak to four matches on Friday with a 6-1 victory over Utah State at the Fertitta Tennis Center.
The Wildcats jumped out early in the match, winning all three doubles matches. Sascha Kiehne and Fabio Mancarella defeated Jakob Asplund and Jonas Tyden 8-5 in the top spot, while Henning Hipp and Nick Plum pulled out an 8-6 win over Oscar Ericsson and Fernando Gallegos at No. 2. In the No. 3 spot, Spencer Marchant and Travis Covington easily dispatched Matt Searle and Matt Braithwaite 8-1.
In singles play, the Wildcats only gave up a single point, which came in the No. 1 position. Hipp dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision to Asplund for the lone Aggie point on the day. The Wildcats pulled out a trio of three-set matches, as Mancarella (No. 2), Plum (No. 4) and Chris Williams (No. 5) all came away victorious. Both Kiehne and Covington cruised, winning in straight-sets at the No. 3 and 6 positions, respectively.
The Wildcats will remain in Vegas for a match against Nevada-Las Vegas on Saturday.
