Wildcats Fall 3-2 to UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. -- A pair of goals by Weber State sophomore midfielder Alyssa Foutz was upstaged by a hat trick from UC Irvine's Kate Berrini as the Anteaters downed the Wildcats 3-2 in the UC Irvine Invitational on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, the action kicked up in the 60th minute as Foutz tallied on a corner kick from Shaylee Hyde. Berrini answered in the 75th minute, scoring her first goal of the season on a free kick from 30 yards.
Foutz gave the lead back to the 'Cats in the 78th minute, finishing a ball that bounced around in the Anteater box. Berrini would come back with goals in the 84th and 88th minutes, both on assists by Tanya Taylor. Carly Crowder also assisted on the second game-tying goal.
WSU goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie posted five saves in 64 minutes and 45 seconds of playing time before leaving the match with an injury. She was replaced by freshman Alyson Tucker for the final 24:15.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday for their second, and final, match of the Invitational as they take on Cal State Bakersfield. Bakersfield fought to a 1-1 tie against Saint Mary's on Friday.
