Hot Shooting Eagles Down Wildcats

OGDEN, Utah -- Eastern Washington (8-9 overall; 3-1Big Sky) shot 56.3 percent from the field, including 58.3 percent from three-point territory to defeat the Weber State women's basketball team (5-10; 0-3) 82-68 on Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center. The win was the first for the Eagles in Ogden in 22 tries.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 14-6 lead, but the Eagles responded with a 20-5 run to take a 26-19 lead with 2:18 left in the opening half and EWU led 31-25 at the break.
After Sarah Conner hit a jumper to pull the Wildcats within six at 46-40 with 12:40 left, the Eagles scored the next 11 points to take a 17-point lead with 9:30 remaining. The Wildcats would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Eastern Washington's Nicole Scott led all scorers with 20 points, hitting 6 of 8 shots from the floor and 8 of 8 from the free throw line. Brianne Ryan added 15 points for the Eagles, while Julie Piper chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Tonya Schnibbe led the Wildcats with 18 points, which included a 9 of 10 performance from the free throw line. Conner hit 5 of 13 shots, including three from behind the arc, to record 15 points. Ali Thorderson added 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting, while Caitlin Anderson scored nine points and tied Piper with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Wildcats will be on the road next week as they make the Montana, Montana State swing. The 'Cats will face Montana State in Bozeman on Thursday, Jan. 15 and Montana on Saturday, Jan. 17 in Missoula. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tipoffs.
