OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State men's tennis team (1-5) broke into the win column on Tuesday with a 7-0 sweep of conference rival Idaho State (0-2) at the Ogden Athletic Club.

"It's nice to get that first win of the season out of the way," said WSU head coach Jared Burnham. "I was really pleased with the way our guys played all the way down the lineup. After playing a tough early schedule entirely on the road, it can be easy to relax when you get back home, but our guys were all pretty sharp today."

The Wildcats jumped on the Bengals in doubles, sweeping the three matches for the opening point. Sascha Kiehne and Simon Unger defeated Javier Royo and Ross Dechant 8-4 at No. 1, Spencer Marchant and Chris Williams scored an 8-4 win over Danel Barrenechea and Alex Buceta at No. 2 and Travis Covington and Cole Paterson downed Dan Buckingham and Andres Mancero 8-2 at No. 3.

In singles play, only Unger (No. 2) was taken to a third set, which he won over Barrenechea 6-2 after splitting the first pair 6-0 and 4-6. Kiehne defeated Royo 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1.

At the No. 3 and 4 spots, the Wildcats won by identical 6-3, 6-4 margins, with Williams downing Buceta at No. 3 and Marchant getting past Dechant at No. 4.

"I was really pleased with the play of Spencer (Marchant) and Chris (Williams)," said Burnham. "They have been forced up in the lineup with us missing a couple of our top four players, and they have really stepped up their game to fill those spots."

Covington downed Buckingham 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, while Cole Paterson cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mancero at No. 6.
