Red Raiders Come Back to Beat WSU

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Weber State women's soccer team gave up a 1-0 lead for the third-straight match, this time falling 2-1 to Texas Tech in the final match of the Red Raider Classic on Sunday at the John Walker Complex.
Ari Wood gave the Wildcats their 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Jessie Baddley's pass from the top of the box found Wood on the right side. Wood then fired a shot to the far post, beating Texas Tech goalkeeper Colleen Pitts for her second tally of the year.
In the second half, the Red Raiders came out firing and out-shot the Wildcats 10-4 over the final 45 minutes. The two teams matched shots at four apiece in the opening half.
In the 49th minute, Karen DeLeon scored her second goal of the season, giving the Red Raiders the equalizer they had sought as she put away a rebound off a Katie Hinds shot.
In the 80th minute, Conner Williams found Dawn Ward on the left side from the top of the box. Ward's shot went off Rebecca Ritchie and across the line for the game-winner. The goal was the seventh of the season for Ward.
Ritchie posted six saves for the match, while Pitts needed only a single stop to earn the win for the Red Raiders.
The Wildcats will head out next weekend for their third-consecutive road trip as they will face Washington State and Idaho.
