LAS CRUCES, NM -- The Weber State softball team dropped another two games on Saturday as St. Mary's and Tennessee defeated the Wildcats at the Troy Cox Classic.

The Wildcats looked to have their first win in hand in Saturday's opener, but St. Mary's rallied for a 10-5 win. In the nightcap, WSU was clearly outmatched against the nationally-ranked Lady Vols as Tennessee scored a 21-2 victory.

Weber State opened the day scoring three times in the first inning against the Gaels. Heather Jackson led off the game with a single to center, and Genasee Aman followed with a walk. With two outs, Aubri Chiquete doubled the pair home for a 2-0 lead. Chiquete then scored as Brandi Christopher reached on an error.

St. Mary's put up two runs in the top of the second, but the Wildcats matched the pair in the bottom of the frame. London Clarke set the table with a leadoff walk, which was followed by a single by Linnea Ketcher. Both players later scored on back-to-back fielder's choice plays.

The Gaels put up a single run in the fifth, but the Wildcats still held a 5-3 lead heading into the final inning. St. Mary's dashed the Wildcats' hopes with seven runs in the top of the seventh.

The Wildcats hurt themselves with four errors against the Gaels, leading to five unearned runs on the day, which made up the final margin.

In the second game of the day, Weber State took an early 1-0 lead as Jackson scored on a groundout by Ariel Whiteman.

The 21st-ranked Volunteers then jumped all over the Wildcats, scoring eight times in the first and nine times in the second. Another four runs in the third made it a 21-1 lead.

The Wildcats scored another run in the top of the fifth. Ketcher singled to open the inning, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Aman. Britinie Hardine then got the run home with a sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats dropped to 0-4 on the early season with the two losses. WSU will face Bradley in its final game of the tournament on Sunday.
