WSU Drops Doubleheader to Hawks

OGDEN, Utah -- Seattle University spoiled the home conference opener for the Wildcats as the Redhawks swept a doubleheader at Wildcat Field on Friday afternoon.
Weber State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game one as Ariel Whiteman doubled to right center, driving in Linnea Ketcher and Heather Jackson. But Seattle used a six-run fourth inning to fuel a 10-8 win in the opener.
In the second game, the Redhawks jumped on the Wildcats, scoring four times in the top of the first. Seattle later added another four runs in the sixth to put away the game, earning the sweep with a 10-3 win.
After Seattle tied game one at 2-2 with a pair in the third, Britinie Hardine homered to put WSU back on top. After SU's six run outburst in the top of the fourth, the Wildcats put together a rally of their own, scoring four times to cut the lead to 8-7.
BreAnn Jones led off the scoring for the Wildcats in the fourth, driving an RBI double to the gap in right center. Brandi Christopher followed Jones's hit with a double of her own to for the second run of the inning. Heather Jackson and Ariel Whiteman also posted RBI singles in the inning.
Hardine hit her second home run of the game in the sixth to tie the game at 8-8, but Seattle claimed the win with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Hardine's two long balls give her a team-leading 10 on the season.
In game two, the Wildcats tried to play catchup for the entire seven innings after falling behind 4-0. Aubri Chiquete homered and Christopher had an RBI single in the second to cut the lead in half, but Seattle responded with another run in the third.
After the four-run sixth for Seattle, Jackson drove in the final run for Weber State on the day with an RBI double. Seatle added a single run in the seventh for insurance.
The Wildcats fell to 1-33 overall and 1-5 in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference with the pair of losses, while Seattle improved to 8-24-1 overall and 4-2 in league play.
The two teams will face off for another pair on Saturday, April 17, beginning at Noon.
