OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State softball team dropped another two games on Friday afternoon, losing the first pair of a four-game series with Portland State. The Vikings claimed a 6-3 win in the opener, and came back with an 11-1 win in game two at Wildcat Softball Field.

The Wildcats were able to scratch some runs off of Anna Bertrand, scoring single runs in the second and third innings against the Vikings' ace.

In the second inning, Linnea Ketcher got things going for WSU with a double to left center. She was bunted to third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Genasee Aman.  The run offset an unearned run given up in the top of the first to tie the game at 1-1 after a pair of innings.

After an RBI double by Becca Diede gave the lead back to Portland State, the Wildcats came back with an RBI double of their own in the bottom of the inning. Heather Jackson's two-bagger plated Abby Bowcutt, who had reached base on a bunt single.

Alexa Morales scored on an inside-the-park home run for the Vikings in the fourth for a single run, and a trio of extra base hits in the fifth produced a pair of runs for PSU in the fifth. A Brandi Scoggins double in the top of the sixth drove in Ariel Wiser to give Portland State a 6-2 lead.

The Wildcats got their final run of the opener off of reliever Tori Rogers in the sixth. Ariel Whiteman began the inning with a double down the right field line. Pinch runner Jessica Adler then scored as Aubri Chiquete doubled to the right center gap.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats threatened, but were unable to score. Britinie Hardine and Bowcutt reached base, bringing the tying run to the plate with one out, but Rogers got out of the jam, forcing popups by Heather Jackson and Whiteman to end the game.

The second game was all Portland State until the fifth inning, when the Wildcats produced a single run. The Vikings piled up 13 hits in the game, eight of which went for extra bases, including four home runs and three triples.

Aubri Chiquete led off the Wildcats' lone scoring inning with a single to right. Linnea Ketcher blasted a triple off the right field wall, but the Vikings gunned down Chiquete at the plate with a nice relay throw. Ketcher scored for the Wildcats on an infield hit by Angela DeVries.

The Wildcats fell to 1-43 overall on the season and 1-13 in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference following the sweep, while Portland State improved their conference-leading record to 12-2, while moving to 22-24 overall.

The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game beginning at Noon at Wildcat Field.
