ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Dixie State's Lauren Folta tossed a two-hitter in a 3-0 victory in game one and the Red Storm offense broke loose in game two for a 7-2 win and a sweep of the Weber State softball team at Brooks Field on Tuesday.
Breanna Egge hit a first inning home run to give the Storm all the offense they would need in the opener. Folta took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, before having it broken up with a one-out single. Kelsey Mendenhall added a two-run homer in the fifth to help finish off the Wildcats in game one.
In the second game of the twin-bill, the Red Storm posted seven runs over the first five innings, highlighted by a four-run inning in the fourth.
Brittnie Miller tossed a gem of her own in the circle for Dixie State in game two, shutting out the Wildcats until Britinie Hardine singled home Heather Jackson in the sixth. Lyndsey Minnich drove in Brandi Christopher with a single in the seventh for the second Wildcat run of the game, but it was too little, too late as Weber State dropped its sixth-straight game.
WSU fell to 3-11 on the season with the pair of losses, while Dixie State improved to 10-3. The Wildcats will next head to Oregon to face both the University of Oregon and Oregon State in a pair of doubleheaders.
