OGDEN, Utah -- The Wildcats put together their first winning streak of the season, but came up just short in their bid to keep it going.

The Weber State University softball team split a doubleheader with North Dakota on Saturday afternoon, edging the Fighting Sioux 3-2 to open the day and then falling 3-2 in the end cap at Wildcat Softball Field.

"It was a good weekend for us," Weber State coach Tina Johnson said. "Getting two wins will give us some confidence."

Senior Brandi Christopher was 3-of-4 at the plate across the two games,  getting an RBI single and a stolen base in the opening game, and scoring a run in the second.

Junior Erika James was 1-of-2 at the plate with a run scored and two stolen bases in the opening game, and had a hit and a stolen base in the second game.

Weber State open a 1-0 lead in the second inning when sophomore Angela DeVries brought Sarah Clark home with a deep single.

North Dakota tied things back up at 1-1 in the fourth and then took a 2-1 lead in the sixth.

James scored on a wild pitch to even things up at 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning, and Christopher singled to left field to bring Shaila Rivers across the plate for the go-ahead run.

The second game was scoreless until the fifth inning, with North Dakota bringing two across the plate to take a 2-0 lead.

Weber State answered back in the sixth with Brooke Silva's two RBI single down the right field line that brought Jessica Adler and Christopher home to tie the game up at 2-2.

The Sioux, however, quickly regained the lead on Amanda Johnson's leadoff home run in the top of the seventh and the Wildcats went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.

Weber State (5-19) will remain home for two more games, taking on in-state rival Utah State in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Softball Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
