SEATTLE, Wash. -- Despite coming up with 16 hits spanning two games, the Wildcats weren't able to claim a win on the opening day of Pacific Coast Softball Conference action.
Junior Erika James came up with four hits, two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases to lead the Weber State University softball team, which dropped its PCSC opening doubleheader 5-3 and 8-4 to Seattle University on Saturday afternoon at Logan Field.
Weber State dropped to 7-23 overall and 0-2 in PCSC action with the two losses.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Wildcats rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth, but a disastrous bottom half of the inning brought in four runs, including three on a home run by Theresa Clark.
The Wildcats tried to mount a comeback in the seventh, getting a solo home run from Ashley Huddleston to cut the deficit to two, but that would be all the offense WSU would generate.
In the second game, Seattle scored six runs on four hits in the second inning to go ahead 6-0. The Wildcats cut it to 6-2 in the fifth, but Seattle countered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-2.
Weber State scored lone runs in the sixth and seventh as their attempt at a comeback came up just short.
The Wildcats will remain in Seattle to face the Redhawks twice more on Sunday to wrap up the four-game PCSC-opening series.
