OGDEN, Utah -- The Weber State University softball team dropped a pair of tough games to in-state rival Utah Valley on Saturday, falling 4-3 and 8-0 to the Wolverines in Pacific Coast Softball Conference action at Wildcat Softball Field.
Senior Britinie Hardine had a pair of doubles on the afternoon, while redshirt freshman Ashley Huddleston also tallied two doubles in the days opening game.
Hardine, the Wildcats' career home run leader, was one of four seniors honored between the two games for Senior Day as they wrapped up their home careers for the Purple and White.
Catcher Brandi Christopher, utility player Jessica Adler and infielder Heather Jackson, joined Hardine in being honored for their playing careers.
Weber State led 1-0 to open the first game, but Utah Valley rallied with two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. The Wildcats quickly countered to make it 2-2, with the Wolverines putting the visitors back in front with a solo home run in the third.
Weber State tied it up at 3-3 in the fifth, but Utah Valley scored the go-head run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.
WSU and UVU battled through 4 1/2 innings in the second game, with the Wolverines staked out to a 2-0 lead. Utah Valley's bates, however, exploded during the bottom of the fifth as they scored six runs to take the 8-0 lead and end the game on a run-rule.
Weber State (12-34 overall, 3-13 Pacific Coast) will conclude its 2011 season on next weekend with a four-game series at Portland State. The Vikings are currently tied with Northern Colorado for the PCSC lead and sit just one game ahead of the Wolverines in the loss column.
