LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Weber State University softball team dropped a pair of tough games at the Troy Cox Classic on Saturday.

The Wildcats fell 12-4 in five innings to No. 22 Nebraska in the day's opening contest, and then lost an extra-inning heartbreaker to Colorado State 15-14 at the New Mexico State University Softball Complex.

Weber State (3-6) made solid contact with the ball in both games, pounding out 18 combined runs on 20 hits. Freshman Cydnee Clarke was 5-for-7 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and a run scored across the day's two games. Lyndsey Minnich was 4-for-7 with four RBIs and three runs scored, including a home run in each game. Symbree Minniear was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored, with a home run against the Rams. Freshman Janel Cunningham was 3-of-7 with three runs scored and a home run against the Cornhuskers.

Against Nebraska, Weber State took a 2-1 lead in second inning after Cunningham hit a two-run homer, but the nationally-ranked Cornhuskers scored nine runs in the third to break open the game.

The Wildcats managed six hits, four of which went for extra bases.

Against Colorado State, Weber State fell in extra innings during a grueling 3 hour, 52 minute slugfest.

The Wildcats stormed out to a 6-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, only to have the Rams answer back to make it 6-6 after one.

Colorado State went ahead 7-6 in the second, but Weber State tied it at 7-7 in the top half of the third inning.

The Rams brought home four runs in the bottom of the third to take an 11-7 lead, with the Wildcats putting up a seven spot in the fourth to go ahead 14-11.

WSU left 8 runners on base in the final four innings, including three in the sixth, as CSU rallied to make it 14-13 after 6 and then tied it at 14-14 in the seventh.

In the extra inning, the Wildcats struck out three times after getting runners on first and second, with the Rams scoring the game-winning run on two-out, bases loaded walk.

Weber State wraps up its five-game tournament appearance on Sunday when it faces Stephen F. Austin for the second time. The Wildcats defeated the Ladyjacks 13-5 in five innings late Friday night.
