FORT COLLINS, Colo. - With the pressure on in the final inning, freshman catcher Janel Cunningham didn't miss a beat.

The 5-foot-6 Cunningham, a native Mira Loma, Calif., hit an RBI single to right field, bringing in the winning run as the Weber State University softball team knocked off host Colorado State 6-5 in the final game of the Colorado State Classic.

With the game deadlocked at 5-5, Sarah Clark hit a one-out double to get on base, with Cunningham's hit bringing her home to give the Wildcats a 3-2 mark at the three-day, four-team tournament.

Weber State earned the tournament title after Colorado State defeated Northern Iowa later Sunday as all three teams finished tied for the top spot. The Wildcats, who earned a split with the Panthers, claimed the title with a 2-1 head-to-head record.

Clark earned the win on the mound, going the distance, as she improved to 6-4 on the season. The senior right hander from Springville, Utah, went 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA in three starts during the tournament.

Cunningham was 2-for-3 with both hits being run-scoring singles, while senior Erika Dixon was 2-for-5 with a home run and a pair of runs scored. Senior Symbree Minniear was 2-of-3 with an RBI triple and a double. Clark was also 2-of-3 with a double, and senior Lyndsey Minnich had an RBI double in the third inning.

As a team, Weber State (7-11) had 11 hits in the game, and finished the tournament with 42 hits, including 14 that went for extra bases.

After playing their first 18 games of the season away from their Ogden, Utah, home field, the Wildcats will make their home debut on Tuesday, March 13, against Dixie State. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
