ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Weber State University women's softball team put up a valiant fight during its first two games of the season, but came up a little short of snagging a win during opening day.

The Wildcats fell 6-0 to Loyola Marymount in the first contest, and then dropped an eighth-inning heart-breaker 2-1 to Oklahoma State in their second game of the day during the Red Desert Classic at St. George's Canyons Complex.

Freshman third baseman Alyson Kulp led the way at the plate, hitting 3-of-6 during the two games, including getting two hits against the Lions.

Freshman infielders Krystin Kubo and Brooke Ford each notched hits, as did senior outfielder London Clarke.

In the opening game, the Wildcats had four hits against the Lions, but left six runners on base as they suffered a shutout in the game. After Loyola Marymount took a 1-0 lead, Weber State put the tying run on base in the second inning, and then put a potential go-ahead run on base in the second, and then again in the third, but couldn't get them across the plate, and LMU got a three-run double from Skylar Segura that pushed the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third.

In the second game, sophomore right-hander Morgan Allaband threw seven shutout innings before the Oklahoma State, of the Big 12 Conference, scored in extra innings to go ahead 2-0.

The Wildcats fought back within 2-1, with Ford getting an sacrifice RBI as she scored freshman Jazmine Thompson

Weber State will be back in action on Saturday against Nevada at 1:30 p.m. and Arkansas at 4 p.m. during the third day of the Red Desert Classic, before wrapping up their opening weekend against Seattle on Sunday at 11 a.m.
