Wildcat softball drops doubleheader to San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Weber State University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader with San Diego on Thursday night.
Led by timely hitting, the Toreros captured 4-2 and 6-1 victories over the Wildcats at the USD Softball Complex.
In game one, Weber State outhit San Diego 5-4, but the Wildcats were unable to push the equalizing runs across the plate.
Freshman right fielder Sara Hingsberger hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, and sophomore first baseman Krystin Kubo had a pair of hits, including an RBI single in the seventh, as the Wildcats tried to rally.
Junior right-hander MaCauley Flint took her second straight loss on the mound, falling to 7-3, despite allowing just four hits and one walk, with five strikeouts.
In the second game, Weber State took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from sophomore third baseman Alyson Kulp that scored junior catcher Janel Cunningham, who had reached earlier on a single up the middle.
The Wildcats made it stand up until the bottom of the fifth, when the Toreros bats came to life with six hits that scored six runs.
Senior right-hander Jasmine Ioane took the loss on the mound, her first of the season, in relief.
Weber State will be back in action on Friday against Seattle (2 p.m.) and Farleigh Dickinson (4:30 p.m.) to open up the University of San Diego Tournament at the USD Softball Complex.
