Wildcats split two in San Diego tourney

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Wildcats earned a split during their third day in southern California, topping Fairleigh Dickinson 6-0 on Saturday afternoon and then falling 7-4 to host San Diego in the nightcap of the University of San Diego Tournament at the USD Softball Complex.
Weber State moves to 14-10 on the season, and will wrap up its weekend on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with a rematch against Seattle, who the Wildcats defeated 2-1 on Friday.
In the first game, junior right-hander MaCauley Flint threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and three walks against 11 strikeouts. It was the second consecutive start that Flint has thrown 11 strikeouts and improves her record to 9-3 on the mound this season.
Freshman Sara Hingsberger was 2-for-3 with both hits being doubles against Knights, while senior shortstop Brooke Silva was also 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Senior right-hander/designated player Jasmine Ioane had an RBI double for the Wildcats, who defeated Fairleigh Dickinson for the second straight day.
Weber State opened up a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth.
In the second game, the Toreros scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to capture a see-saw victory over the Wildcats.
San Diego scored twice in the bottom of the second, with Weber State answering back with four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
The Toreros (13-10) scored five runs during the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead and neither team was able to push another run across the plate.
Sophomore third baseman Alyson Kulp went 2-of-4 with a run scored for the Wildcats, while four other Weber State players earned singles.
The Wildcats finished with six hits against the Toreros, but stranded nine base runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the second.
