Wildcats beat CMU 63-60 in Gulf Coast Showcase

ESTERO, Fla. -- Joel Bolomboy had a double-double and Jeremy Senglin added 18 points as Weber State rallied for a 63-60 win over Central Michigan Monday night in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase. Weber State will now play Drake Tuesday night in the second round of the tournament.
The game saw six ties and four lead changes. Central Michigan led 30-24 at halftime but the Wildcats got things going early in the second half. Weber State went on a 12-0 run behind three 3-pointers from Jeremy Senglin and the Wildcats led by as many as five points early in the second half. Central Michigan regained the lead with a 7-0 run of their own and led by five with 6:19 to play.
The Wildcats came right back with a 8-0 run to regain the lead but a CMU 3-pointer tied the game at 60 with 2:29 to play. WSU led by one when Dusty Baker was fouled with 10 seconds to play. He missed both free throws but the 'Cats stopped the Chippewas on the other end and Baker grabbed the rebound and drew a foul. He knocked down two free throws with two seconds left to seal the win for Weber State.
“This was a hard fought win and a great win for us against a really good team,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “Our players really played tough and stayed together. We finally got some rhythm going in the second half and Joel and Jeremy were both huge for us. It was a great win and we're excited for the next one tomorrow.”
Bolomboy had his fourth double-double in four games as he finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds. He had a double-double in the first half with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Senglin had 16 of his 18 points in the second half including knocking down three 3-pointers. Dusty Baker added eight points and Zach Braxton had six for the Wildcats who improve to 2-2 on the season.
Weber State shot 41 percent from the field and held CMU to 34 percent shooting. The 'Cats shot 50 percent in the second half and WSU had 24 points in the paint.
Tuesday's game against Drake in the second round of the Gulf Coast Showcase will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mountain time.
