ESTERO, Fla. -- Jeremy Senglin scored a career-high 34 points and made eight 3-pointers to lead Weber State to a 74-58 win over Drake Tuesday in the second round of the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Wildcats advance to the finals of the tournament Wednesday night against Murray State.
Senglin finished the game 12-of-18 from the field, including 8-of-12 from 3-point range to go along with six rebounds. The 34 points is a career-high and the eight 3-pointers made ranks as the second most in a game in Weber State history.
Drake jumped out to an early 10-5 lead before the Wildcats broke off a 15-0 run to take the lead and never looked back. The Bulldogs made a run and cut the lead to one point twice in the first half but Senglin scored four straight points at the end of halftime to give the Wildcats a 33-28 lead at the break.
Weber State started the second half on a 14-6 run, including two threes by Senglin, and led by as many as 15 points with 6:14 to play. Drake cut the lead to seven with less than three minutes to play before yet another 3-pointer by Senglin sealed the deal for the 'Cats.
“This was a great team win for us and the guys played so hard,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “They really had a great effort. Jeremy was outstanding. He got on a roll and was pretty special tonight. Every time we needed something he was able to knock down a big shot. We're excited for another challenge tomorrow night.”
The Wildcats shot 44 percent from the field, compared to 40 percent for the Bulldogs and the 'Cats outrebounded Drake 39-32. Weber State finished the game 14-of-30 from 3-point range and dished out 12 assists.
Weber State senior Joel Bolomboy had yet another double-double and reached two milestones in the win.
