Wildcats fall 5-2 to Boise State in season opener

BOISE, Idaho – The Weber State women's tennis team started the 2016 season off with a 5-2 loss to Boise State University. Despite the loss, the Wildcats played well.
"The girls played absolutely fantastic," Director of Tennis Brad Ferreira said. "Everybody played very well for the first match of the season. There are some things they need to work on but if they play like this the rest of the season we're going to be in a solid position for conference. I'm excited to see where these girls are going to go this season."
Weber State started the day of winning the doubles point. In the No. 1 spot Agata Bachanek and Sarah Parker defeated Bobbi Oshiro and Ari Aldrey Paules 6-4. Kristi Elmer and Morgan Dickason also picked up a doubles win in the No. 2 spot defeating Milena Toseva and Teal Vosburgh 6-4.
"We've been working on doubles and we came out and won the doubles point," Ferriera said. "That was no small feat against a team like Boise."
In the singles competition Bachanek came from behind to defeat Vosburgh in the No. 1 spot 2-6, 6-1, and 13-11. Elmer lost in the tie breaker set in the No. 2 spot to Paules Aldrey with scores of 6-7, 6-2, 10-7. Dominque Beauvais fell to Hanna Kantenwein in the No. 3 despite scores of 6-1 and 6-2, Beauvais hung with Kantenwein and battled to the end of the match.
Weber State is now 0-1 on the season and will next travel to Las Vegas to take on University of the Pacific, UNLV, and New Mexico State. The Wildcats first home match is Feb. 14 against Iowa State and they will start Big Sky Conference at North Dakota on Feb. 20.
