FULLERTON, Calif. – The Wildcats earned a split on the final day of the Titan Classic, wrapping up the three-day, six-game tournament with a 4-2 overall record.

Sophomore right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling turned in a career-high nine strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work to help lead the Weber State University softball team back from a first-inning deficit to defeat Canisius 10-5 in the day's opening game at Cal State Fullerton's Anderson Family Field.

In the day's second game, the Wildcats fell 9-7 in a rematch against the host Titans.

Against the Golden Griffins, Weber State tailed 3-0 in the first inning after a three-run home run, but quickly turned the tide.

Junior outfielder Mackenzi Corta hit an RBI double to left center to score junior Sara Hingsberger to start the comeback, with senior third baseman Alyson Kulp hitting an RBI single to score Corta and make it 3-2 after two.

Sophomore catcher Molly Horne tied things up with an RBI single in the third, and the Wildcats took the 4-3 lead on a fielding error that saw senior Jazmine Thompson come across the plate. Sophomore second baseman McKinley Brinkerhoff hit a two RBI double that plated two more runs, giving the Wildcats a 6-3 lead after three.

Senior first baseman Krystin Kubo had an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-3, and Hingsberger had a bases-loaded RBI walk to make it 8-3. Horne scored on a wild pitch, and junior Katelyn Robinson had an RBI to it 10-3.

Canisius scored single runs in the sixth and seventh, but couldn't get any closer.

Weber State finished with 12 hits in the game, with Robinson, Horne, and senior shortstop Aubrey Whitmer each getting two.

The Wildcats got off to disastrous start in the first inning against the Titans, with the hosts scoring nine runs on five hits, four walks and two illegal pitches. Seven of the nine runs were unearned.

To their immense credit, the Purple and White were quick to put the troublesome start behind them, as they locked down the Titans offense to just two hits and two walks the rest of the way.

Weber State's offense finally spun to life in the fourth inning, with Hingsberger and junior KyRae Kogianes each hitting RBI singles to cut the deficit to 9-2.

The Wildcats made it 9-3 when Whitmer safely reached for a fielder's choice RBI, and Hingsberger came up with two on and smashed a three-run shot over the center field wall to make it 9-6.

WSU quickly burned through the bottom of the fifth, with Kogianes leading off the sixth with a blast to left field that made it 9-7.

Fullerton (4-1) again went down in order in the sixth, to bring up the Wildcats' last chance. Freshman outfielder JaeCie Wilson singled to lead off the inning, bringing the potential tying run to the plate. After the Wildcats' next two batters struck out, Hingsberger singled to right field, and then stole second, but the Titans escaped with the win on a strike out in Weber State's final at-bat.

Sophomore right-hander Bailey Seek, who pitched the complete-game win against CSUF on Saturday, scattered four hits with a strikeout, while not allowing an earned run in going six innings in relief.

Weber State will be back in action on Friday when the Wildcats travel to the DeMarini Desert Classic, hosted by UNLV in Henderson, Nev.
