FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Despite Joel Bolomboy leaving the game in the first half with an injury, Weber State held on for a 77-74 win over Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon at the Walkup Skydome.
The win gives the Wildcats 20 wins on the season and keeps the 'Cats in first place in the league standings at 12-2.
Weber State led 17-14 with 12:52 left in the first half when Bolomboy went down with a left knee injury and did not return. He will have an MRI Sunday.
“This was a great, great team win,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We faced adversity and had to mix up some lineups after Joel got hurt and we had so many guys step up and play well. They fought like crazy for a great team win. The team really rallied around Joel and found a way to win.”
There were seven times and nine lead changes in the game. Weber State led by three at halftime and never trailed in the second half but could never put the Lumberjacks away until the end.
The 'Cats led by eight at 54-46 when Jeremy Senglin took over, scoring 10 straight Wildcat points. He knocked down two 3-pointers and had two layups in the three minute stretch and the 'Cats led by 11 with 6:25 left.
NAU cut the lead to as low as two points in the final minute. The 'Cats led by three with four seconds left when a Lumberjack 3-pointer missed to seal the win. It was Weber State's eighth straight victory in Flagstaff.
Weber State made 13 3-pointers and finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field, compared to 42 percent for NAU. The Lumberjacks outrebounded the 'Cats 37-35 but made just six 3-pointers.
Senglin led the 'Cats with 22 points and knocked down five 3-pointers, while playing 39 minutes. Kyndahl Hill had 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds off the bench. Weber State had 34 points off the bench.
The Wildcats return home for their final two home games of the year next week hosting Montana State Thursday and Montana Saturday.
