SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Locked in on both sides of the field, the Wildcats earned a two-step on Friday afternoon.

The Weber State University softball team pounded out 19 hits and allowed just nine and one run across two games in earning a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's and a nail-biting 2-1 win over host Cal Poly during the Mustang Classic at Bob Janssen Field.

The Wildcats' win over the Mustangs snapped Cal Poly's eight-game winning streak – a stretch that included a win over then No. 9 Arizona – and improved to 11-7 overall.

Freshman outfielder JaeCie Wilson continued her hot batting with a combined 4-of-7 performance with a run scored, while senior shortstop Aubrey Whitmer was 2-for-3 in both games with a solo home run against Saint Peters.

Sophomore right-hander Kirtlyn Bohling (6-2) earned the win in the circle against the Mustangs, scattering five hits with one earned run and a walk. Junior right-hander Baylee Reeves earned the complete-game shutout win against the Peacocks, allowing four hits and four walks against four strikeouts.

Against Saint Peter's to start the day off, Wilson led off the game with a single and scored when junior left fielder Carley White hit an RBI single through the left side to make it 1-0.

The Wildcats doubled the lead in the sixth inning with Whitmer's lead-off home run, and then made it 3-0 in the seventh when Wilson hit an RBI single through the right side that scored junior Mackenzi Corta.

Against the Mustangs, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after senior third baseman Alyson Kulp hit a leadoff double and junior right fielder Sara Hingsberger brought her home with an RBI single.

Weber State made it 2-0 in the fifth when senior first baseman Krystin Kubo hit a leadoff double and Corta scored senior pinch runner Jazmine Thompson with an RBI single to center field.

Cal Poly's offense threatened in both the sixth and seven, with tying run on base with one out in both innings, but Bohling and the Wildcats defense closed things down to earn the win.

Due to rain forecast in California this weekend, the Wildcats' Saturday schedule has been adjusted. Weber State will now play Toledo at 12:30 p.m. MT (11:30 a.m. Pacific) and then face a rematch with the Mustangs at 3 p.m. The Wildcats' scheduled rematch with Saint Peter's has been cancelled. Weber State is still scheduled to wrap up the tournament on Sunday against Toledo at 10 a.m. MT (9 a.m. Pacific).
