OGDEN - Weber State men's tennis team took down Montana 4-0 in the final home match of the year Sunday afternoon to become the Big Sky Regular Season Champions for the third year in a row.

Over the course of the last three years the Wildcats have posted a 30-2 Big Sky Conference record.

"There was no chance we were going to lose on senior day and our boys defintiely came to win," said Director of Tennis Brad Ferreira. "It feels good to win the title for the third time in a row. I'm incredibly proud of these boys especially the seniors and everything they've done and accomplished."

Before the match the four seniors, Landon Barlow, Sanjay Goswami, Todd Fought and Jakub Gewert were honored for their outstanding careers as Wildcats.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Stefan Cooper and Goswami defeated Yannick Schmidl and Alex Canellopolos with a 6-1 score.  Schmidl and Canellopolos were previously undefeated on the year when playing No. 1 doubles. Cooper and Goswami are currently on a nine match winning streak.

Fought and Gewert also grabbed a solid win in doubles play. The Wildcat pair took down Peter Felming-Mimnagh and Victor Casadevall 7-5 in the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 doubles spot did not finish as the doubles point had already gone to Weber State.

Singles play started off with a win in the No. 2 spot by Fought. Fought took down Mimnagh-Fleming 6-3, 6-2.

After Fought's win, Cooper picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot over Schmidl. Cooper went 11-0 in Big Sky play and is on a nine match winning streak.

With four matches still in action the Wildcats only needed one more victory to give them the overall victory and the Big Sky regular season title.

After being down 4-1 in the second set, Goswami came back and tied the score at four all against Tomasz Soltyka in the No. 6 spot. Montana got the jump on Goswami at 6-5 but Goswami tied it up at six all before winning the tie breaker at 7-4 for the match win.

Goswami's win gave Weber State it's fourth and final point of the match. The No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches did not finish as the match had been decided.

Weber State finished the regular season with a 12-7 overall record and a 10-1 Big Sky Conference record. The Wildcats will head to the Big Sky Tournament April 28-30.
