OREM, Utah – Weber State men's basketball couldn't gain any momentum against Utah Valley as the Wolverines ran away with with an 83-56 victory over WSU Wednesday night.
The Wolverines jumped out to 14-2 lead with less than five minutes into the game. WSU was on a four minute scoring drought that was finally broken with a mid-range jumper by Dusty Baker. WSU gained footing after that going on an 8-0 run and held UVU to a three minute scoring drought.
With 6:24 remaining in the first half the score was all tied up at 27-27. Utah Valley finished the first half on a 16-2 run and for the final two minutes of the half, UVU went on a 10-0 run. At halftime Weber State trailed 43-29.
WSU could never recover in the second half and trailed the remainder of the game. Weber State ended the game with a five minute scoring drought while Utah Valley went on an 11-0 run.
The Wildcats were led by Jerrick Harding who had 16 points. There were two other Wildcats that ended the night in double figures, Chapman recorded 15 points and Dusty Baker had 14. Baker's 14 points included four made from beyond the arc.
Chapman also had the game high of rebounds with six for WSU. Zach Braxton and Baker each added five to the Wildcat efforts.
Weber State struggled offensively only shooting 37 percent from the field, 30 percent from the three and 37 percent from the free throw line.
Utah Valley was 56 percent from the field, 58 percent from the three and 60 percent from the line. UVU outrebounded WSU 43-27.
The Wildcats are now 4-4 overall on the season and will continue in-state rivalry action, Saturday, Dec. 9 taking on BYU in the Beehive Classic at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City at 8:00 p.m.
