Wildcats come up short to BYU at Beehive Classic

SALT LAKE CITY – Playing without two starters, Weber State came up just short, as the Wildcats fell 74-68 to BYU Saturday night. The game was the second part of a doubleheader in the inaugural Zion's Bank Beehive Classic at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
The Wildcats were playing without Zach Braxton (Achilles) and Brekkott Chapman (foot) but fought hard throughout the game. WSU trailed 36-32 at halftime but early in the second half, had a 9-0 run and took their first lead at 41-40. But BYU answered each time Weber State made a run.
The Cougars led by eight with 7:00 to play but the Wildcats clawed back and cut the lead to two points at 68-66 with 1:24 to play. BYU made six free throws in the final 25 seconds to seal the win.
Weber State shot 48 percent from the field but allowed BYU to shoot 53 percent. The Cougars were also 10-of-19 from 3-point range, while WSU was 6-of-24 from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by sophomore Jerrick Harding who finished with 29 points, just two shy of his career-high. Harding was 12-of-20 from the field and had four rebounds with two assists.
Dusty Baker started the game and added 13 points for Weber State with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Ryan Richardson added 10 points.
The Wildcats fall to 4-5 on the season with their third-straight road loss. The 'Cats will play their next six games at home starting, Saturday, Dec. 16 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
