LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Wildcats got an up-close look at one of the nation's best team on Saturday afternoon.
The Weber State University softball team suffered a pair of setbacks to No. 8 UCLA at Easton Stadium, falling 4-1 in the opening game and 22-1 in five innings in the second.
In the opening game, the Wildcats recorded seven hits, including a two-out RBI single to center field by sophomore Sadie Blacker that scored sophomore JaeCie Wilson that broke up the Bruins' shutout bid.
Senior Sara Hingsberger was 2-for-3 at the plate and five other Wildcats recorded hits.
In the second game, Wildcats got started on the right foot when Hingsberger smacked a 1-1 pitch over the fence at left field for a 1-0 lead, but the Bruins' fearsome offense caught fire during the first three innings to remain undefeated.
Weber State will wrap up its three-day stay in California on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. MT (11:30 a.m. Pacific) against San Diego State. Â
